In a heartbeat. McFadden is the best RB in the NCAA this year -- by a healthy margin. Adrian Peterson is the best RB in the NCAA in the last decade...and with a year of NFL production.

The only reason you wouldn't do that is if you thought Peterson was a significantly bigger injury risk.

Both runners run with an upright style that could lead to a short NFL career, but I would take McFadden over Peterson in a heartbeat.

It is almost impossible to make this trade under the salary cap rules. I'm sure that Peterson was paid a very large signing bonus as the 7th pick in the draft. I've looked and it looks like he signed a five year 40 million deal which included a 17 million signing bonus (so around 5 million in salary a year, + 17 mil in signing bonus). As such that bonus would have to be absorded in it's entireity if he was traded. Originally the VIkings would have written that bonus off over the life of the contract so they already absorbed 3+ mill on it this year, BUT if they traded him this year, they would have to absorb his 5 million dollar salary + the remaining 13+ million left on his signing bonus (or a cap hit of 18+ million) and then sign the 2nd pick in the draft? It would be impossible cap hit to handle. Trades like this just can't be done in the NFL today.

Wait, I have another one:

Would you trade the #2 for DeMarcus Ware? Or better yet, suppose I offered you your pick of any player drafted in the past 3 years to improve the Patriots. Would it really be a running back? Or would it be Ware, Willis, Merriman, Hawk? Or maybe a tackle or a cornerback?

i would trade a #2 for Ware or Hawk. Not sure on Willis yet..he makes tackles but he hasnt impacted the D yet..not his fault but i'll give him 2 more years when the 49ers D ..maybe..gets better and he can stand out with big plays.

actually..i would give #2 overall for anyone of those. Ware would be my #1 choice

as far as McFadden for Peterson. I would trade for Peterson. I think Peterson is better..his style is different..more aggresive and physical. I think Peterson is the best pure runner in NFL with underrated hands. Toughness, speed, size, moves. Hes everything i want in a RB really. Hes so fun to watch. McFadden..hes smaller..slightly faster but not nearly as strong
