Welcome to Texas
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
IRVING -- Welcome to Texas Stadium, where the Patriots visit the Cowboys today (4:15 p.m. ET).
This is one of the league's older venues and it shows. The Cowboys are planning to move into their new stadium in 2009. One aspect that makes Texas Stadium unique is that the roof covers the seating areas -- so spectators aren't affected by the weather -- but remains open over the synthetic grass field. That doesn't allow much of a breeze and one can see how it could get extremely hot here.
Conditions shouldn't be a major factor today. The current temperature is 80 degrees. It is cloudy.
While the Patriots figure to be dealing with a hostile crowd today, players might also find the field itself to be an adjustment. The field has a significant crown, which means the middle portions of the field are higher than the outside portions of the field for drainage purposes. This could be significant for quarterback Tom Brady, who has never played here in his NFL career, on his throws to the outside because they are essentially going downhill.
As expected there is an overflow media crowd expected today.
We'll have more throughout the day.

Is there a "trickier puzzle" than Tony Romo? I'd like to see that list.
I was full of pi** and vinager yesterday. But I'm a freakin nervous wreck today. I've already downed a 6 pack and it has had no effect whatsoever.
There's no doubt in my mind that my Cowboys CAN win..............can this darn game get here any slower.

If Hason Graham makes that tackle on Desmond Howard, I can easily see the Pats winning that one.
What does BB being the DC of that game have to do with anything? That Pats' defense did a credible job, with what they had.
You're either ill-informed on history, or you don't much about football.
Or, quite possibly, both.

If Dick Jauron and a hobbling Buffalo defense can disrupt Romo - Granted, it was an away game for him, though that many turnovers cannot be explained by simply being in Bufalo - then the Patriots defense, coached by BB, an individual who has defensive gameplans in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, can disrupt him as well.
Pats will win big if they execute. And not so big if they're sloppy.

Cowboy injuries play right into our strength. Our WR's will run all over the Cowboy depleted secondary. Too bad the boys were not healthy, I was hoping for a close game.
The only thing I worry about is the fact that everybody has picked NE - every so often, they are all wrong. If you are a Cowboy fan, that's about the only hope you have.
Logic and the fact that NE comes to play every single week will dictate a blowout for the team from New England.

I know we're not supposed to tolerate other team's star players, but I kind of like Tony Romo. After last Monday's game against Buffalo, a sideline reporter asked Romo about his 5 INTs. Romo said, "Five? I thought it was 7?" You've got to like that attitude.

BTW, it was noted by Reiss today that the Dallas field is the most "Crowned" in the NFL - - high in the middle and slopes down to the sides.
Notice the throws that Brady is struggling with - - the ones to the sides.
The successful ones have all been down the middle.
