Welcome to PBS
CINCINNATI -- Welcome to Paul Brown Stadium, where the Patriots visit the Bengals tonight in a Monday Night Football clash (8:30 p.m.).
After some rain in the area today, the skies are clear and the temperature is in the high 70s. It should cool a bit by kickoff, but there are no adverse conditions for the teams to contend with, save for a light breeze through the stadium. We'll keep an eye on the kickers in warmups to see how that's affecting field goals and kickoffs.
The Patriots and Bengals met here on Oct. 1 last year as well.
The Bengals will be wearing their speciality orange uniforms tonight, with white pants. The team is 3-0 in that combination and hoping to extend the streak.
Jerome Boger gets the call as referee.
Plenty of Patriots fans were spotted downtown en route to the stadium, and they saw a familiar face on a large advertisement: former Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Now pitching for the Reds, Arroyo is one of Cincinnati's more recognizable athletes.
We'll have more throughout the night.

As much as everyone thinks tonight will be a touchdown fiesta, I am anticipating a defensive game with a few turnovers. If that's the case, I think we'll win it easy.

We better get pressure on the QB or this could be a long game for our secondary. Not saying I'm worried about losing though, I'm 90% sure we'll win.

Did the Pats get better or worse this year?
Now look at the score of last years Pats/Bungles game.

I'm looking to see some offensive fireworks on Monday Night.
The Pats destroyed the Bengals last year... and this team is even better than last year's team.
The question is not whether the Pats team is better than the Bengals, the question is how much have the Bengals closed the gap since the last time they played us?

We killed them last year with Maroney and he is questionable tonight. I have faith in Sammy Morris, however, and our improved passing game.

I use to love the Pats on MNF, it was special but not any more. It maybe because I hate the wait but more likely it's the the switch to ESPN and those awful announcers(the dread, how may time will they bring up the scandal). Anyway I hope it's a good game by the Pats with no injuries on either side.
Heard on ESPN
Bengals D thinks key to stopping pats is their DT's preventing brady from stepping.
Watching pats tape as per one of their players, they think all pats big plays have come on blown coverages because teams are trying to do do much so the Bengals D is going to keep it simple.

The real reason the Bengals will be keeping it simple is that they are playing a bunch of warm bodies at linebacker.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnd we have the first of what will no doubt be MULTIPLE posts along these lines for the next 12 months.
He was obviously close to being able to play, to the point that they flew him to Cincy. I'm sure they weighed the risks, realize it's Cincy and that we can win without him, and opted for the safer option.

I don't really like the off-the-charts naysaying on this board either, but when your starting and previously injured RB can't start on Monday night on the fourth game of the year, I think questions about durability are not out of line. Just like I think questioning your kicker's accuracy from 40-50 is in bounds if he misses a few.
Getting too anxious and worried about it is silly, but these are at least areas for mild concern.
as per ESPN..
cincy looking to spread the ball around...kenny watson will be split at WR position for some of the plays...

Fair enough. The other side of the coin is that we're playing on the road so I'm sure this is not something the team decided lightly -- even if just precautionary or a perception of the quality of the opponent, it's a reflection that he's not fit currently.
That said, I'm not really concerned at all about what it might mean for the future. I'm just worried about what it means for tonight. It's the national parity league. No team is immune from freaky turnovers, and being on the minus side of takeaways plus playing on the road generally means loss in the NFL. I'm not expecting the same walk-through tonight that others seem to be. I wish we had all our best personnel on the field tonight. That's my problem with the Maroney news.

Not trying to choose sides here but you need your starting RB to last until the end of the regular season. This is not a "must win" game for us.
We will really need Maroney when the weather is cold and wet (not the best passing weather). A running game will be far more important.
OTOH.....This could be an indication that BB was planning to throw the ball a lot tonight and a running game was only going to be the secondary plan at best.

I hate winning the coin flip on the road -- particularly in prime time games.
It's always hard to play against the defense when their adrenaline is all jacked up. I'd rather get the ball in the second half. Also, because the NFL now has moved to 12:00 minute halves, there's never anyone in the seats to start the second half, and it's real quiet. I wish you could defer to the second half in the NFL.
