Welcome to Charlotte
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Welcome to Bank of America Stadium, where the Patriots visit the Panthers tonight in the third preseason game for both clubs.

The current temperature is 94 degrees and it feels every bit of it. The temperature should be dropping a bit as kickoff nears.

Former Patriots assistant coach Jeff Davidson, now the Panthers' offensive coordinator, is catching up with some members of the New England medical staff.

Twelve teams are expected to represented by scouts at tonight's game. The Jets, who host the Patriots in the season opener, are among the group.

We'll have more throughout the night.

Hello David Thomas!

Goodbye Ron Mexico!

This will be the second game in a row that the Patriots play in miserably hot conditions. Don't read into it too much if players are rotated out or sat at odd times--this is an important tune-up, but still pre-season.

I don't really care about winning and losing a preseason game as much as keeping everyone healthy. *knock on wood*. BB will likely 'try out' a lot of people that are on the bubble as well.

Also I would love to see some holes for Maroney.

Per Mike Reiss on CBS with Burton & Lobel, Brady did not take part in pregame warmups.

Reiss didn't make much of it, saying that making changes at halftime, and coming out for the 3rd qtr were among the most important things about the 3rd game.

I would like to see Cassel get good time this week with the starters, and also make sure the OL has it together a lot better than last week before Brady steps on the field anyways.

Brady warms up
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
As expected, QB Tom Brady is in uniform and warming up on the field. The quarterbacks are all loosening up, throwing to the receivers.

Geez! He just said otherwise - live - on channel 4?

I must have misunderstood his statement. He must have said 'warmups' and meant the team stretching, etc.?

can't put what would have been that third down completion on Hobbs. that's a high percentage pass without a linebacker in coverage on that part of the field. he would have made the tackle a yard or 2 past the sticks. He could have a great year this year. that would make asante's situation much more straightforward.

Very quietly, and after a lot of people crapped on him recently, Tedy Bruschi looks to be getting back to form. His move back to the weak side with the arrival of Thomas is a very good thing for him, and it's starting to show. He should never have to play the strong side, now he can get back to being the play-maker we all know and love.

Agreed. I like Bruschi so much more on the weak side. I thought when Vrabel and Bruschi were together in the middle that they were pretty soft against the run. Having Thomas on the inside may not highlight his talents so much, but it makes the team much better overall.

Been catching up on the DVR. Very encouraged by what I have seen, though it is only preseason, just like it would be if the score were the other way around.

The defense is still flying around, they seemed to be caught up in their agressiveness on that td pass at the end of the half.

Errors in the red zone are still there, false start, Watson's dropped td.

Maroney and Morris have run pretty well.

Overall better first half than last week vs Tenn, IMO. I am looking foward to seeing them in the second half and the adjustments they make.

I think it was a solid half, not a great half. They only got 10 point out of it. The positives were running the ball and slowing down the pass rush. And allowing brady to be better in the passing game. Defense played well minus seymour and warren. this defense is gonna be scary when they return along with asante.

Negatives were only getting 10 points out of the three solid drives. Giving up a td in the last minute. Missing a 52 yard field goal when they were closing in on a score and killed the drive(remind you of the colts game and the penalty moving them out of field goal range and killing the drive?)

Parcells did the same thing with Curtis Martin. I think he ran it so many times in a row to establish a mentality, slow down the pass rush, test maroney, and open up the passing game. now it's more pass because he's not gonna wear out maroney.
