Default A historic BB Patriots draft...

Did ya notice? No tight ends!

Seriously, an encouraging vote of confidence for Garrett Mills and Footless Dave Thomas.

Maybe, but do UDFA signings count at all?

We picked up a UDFA.

So technically the record stays.

Or, an acknowledgement that this was the sorriest TE class in quite some time, and Belichick didn't think there was a prospect likely to be better than that giant currently on the practice squad.

I mean, three tight ends on the first day, one of which was an amazing reach? Unbelievable.

You could argue that the two interpretations are linked. Last year's TE class was ridiculously stacked, this year's -- with Graham gone -- projected to be pathetic. So the Pats loaded up a year in advance with Mills and Thomas, making us go but setting themselves up well.

BTW, anybody hear scuttlebutt on why Ben Patrick fell so far? It's especially astonishing given the shallowness of the position.

They drafted both Thomas and Mills last year because they knew this years class was junk.

Nothing will compared to the Bush/Leinart draft class in some time. That was such an amazing draft class.
