Default OT: Kurt Vonnegut dead at 84

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/11/bo...nnegut.html?hp

I know I was a fan of his work. Tis a sad day in the field of American literature.

Well you can't really complain about living 84 years. I just read Slaughterhouse-Five last summer. It was a quick read and sitting out on the porch on some sunny days reading that is a good memory. RIP

One of my hometown's most famous residents (along with Pat Riley, who was born there). He lived in Schenectady for over a decade while working for GE, I believe, and often worked Capital Region places like Albany, Schenectady, and Troy into his work.

Thanks for the info ... tho' nothing to do with football.

You may recall that Vonnegut celebrated his practice of telephoning celebrity strangers
at any hour.
Early one morning a number of decades ago, my inebriated pal Sean Michael
phoned him at his home on Long Island (NY).
Vonnegut awoke
and answered
but profanely refused to converse.

Funny ... how what goes around ...
comes back and bites ya in the arse.

Vonnegut's last novel, Timequake, was randomly studded with thoughts he just wanted to pass on. The novel wasn't much, but the nuggets of wisdom have stayed with me. Two of those thoughts, in his memory:

Why throw money at a problem? Because that's what money is for.

At particularly nice moments in your daily life, stop and appreciate, saying: "If this isn't nice, what is?"

What is this doing in a football forum? - With all due respect to the deceased its not the proper place.

We might as well start talking about whos the father of Anna Marie Nichole if we are going to broaden things here.

sorry, i thought that marking it "OT" would be good enough. Many people enjoy his work. I thought it was a particularly newsworthy story.
