Environmental group Greenpeace launched a fresh attack on genetically modified maize developed by U.S. biotech giant Monsanto, saying on Tuesday that rats fed on one version developed liver and kidney problems.
![]() A Greenpeace activist holding a placard to protest against the European Commission (EC) order for Greece to lift its ban on planting genetically modified (GMO) maize seeds made by U.S. biotech giant Mosanto outside the EC office in Athens January 12, 2006. Greenpeace launched a fresh attack on genetically modified maize developed by U.S. biotech giant Monsanto, saying on Tuesday that rats fed on one version developed liver and kidney problems. REUTERS/Yiorgos Karahalis Greenpeace said a study it had commissioned that was published in the journal Archives of Environmental Contamination and Technology showed rats fed for 90 days on Monsanto's MON863 maize showed "signs of toxicity" in the liver and kidneys. "It is the first time that independent research, published in a peer-reviewed journal, has proved that a GMO authorized for human consumption presents signs of toxicity," Arnaud Apoteker, a spokesman for Greenpeace France said in a statement. Campaigners against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) say that genetic modification technology is unproven and potentially dangerous and that GMO crops can contaminate other crops. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines07/0314-03.htm

ah yes... Monsanto... the company that forced Fox News' hand in Florida and got two of their investigative reporters fired after they refused to alter their story about genetically altered milk causing cancer...
bottom line: the almighty dollar... produce more, make more... to hell with the health of Americans... ah yes, here we are... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axU9ngbTxKw another reason Fox News is a complete farce... direct quote from the reporters' news director: "In fact, you WILL change your story.... We Paid $3 Billion For These Stations. We'll Decide What the News Is."
