Ainge is a master at the draft. Almost all of his picks have panned out.
As a trader, he is only average. He seems to tread water with his trades.
For free agents, he is average. He signs the wrong guys or non-impact players.

Seriously though, I hope we keep Doc to finish this year, since he sucks so much. Then, dump him, let Ainge work his magic with our high draft picks, and then hire a world-class coaching staff. Finally, don't let Ainge make any trades or free agent signings for the next 2 years.

I said, "I know who you are; you're Tom Brady, sixth-round pick from Michigan," and he replied, 'and I'm the best decision this organization has ever made.' I was stunned. The amazing thing is he didn't say it to be arrogant...he was sincere...I went home and told everyone about it." - Bob Kraft

Ainge is an excellent talent evaluater, and a mediocre tradesman. I think he knew he had a monumental, long term task in trying to turn around the Celtics, and has basically made moves with the long term in mind. The Celtics will be real players this offseason. When you look at them, you see a franchise talent in Pierce, with a good side kick in Szerbiack, and an up coming big man in Jefferson. Take that core, and add (we pray) a top 2 pick, and you've got a nice nucleus. Where they will be players is that they'll have some young talent (West/Gomes/Rondo/Green) to move, future picks (all of their own, plus Minny's 1st in '08), and the critical piece, an expiring contract in Theo Ratliff. When you put it all together, the Celtics could make a play for an established player. Of course, this all rests on who comes out, and how high the Celtics draft. Adding Oden or Durant to Pierce, Wally, Jefferson & Co. would make for a nice roster.

If Gasol isn't traded this season, and we end up with Durant, that's a move we've got to make. Green, Ratliff, and our 08 #1 for Gasol.

PG: Rondo
SG: Pierce
SF: Durant
PF: Al
C: Gasol

Not sure about Rondo starting, yet. Probably should bring in a vet. But that team could win a lot of games.

You're crazy if you wouldn't give up Green to add Gasol to that team.
