That's not true. In fact, I bet about a quarter of police are pretty liberal, at least in the Northeast. Unfortunately, in the days before liberalism, the police often included thugs who would beat up blacks, gays, union workers, and commit other crimes as well. (There are plenty of articles and films that document the history of police corruption and brutality.) Thanks to liberalism, the police began to clean up their act, and now for the most part are pretty much as clean as any other group.

You have it wrong. Liberals believe as does everyone else that an individual is responsible for his own actions. While we're not as vengeful and sadistic as many conservatives, we believe that awful people need to be locked up, even for life. But, we also believe that the way to prevent crime is to address problems early. Conservatives like you don't care much about victims. You let things happen and then you take action. Liberals want to take action BEFORE bad things happen.

I think you're thinking about part of the New Age set, the airheads out there who you perceive as liberal. While some of them are liberal, there are a good number who are quite conservative or libertarian, but who from my experience are not political. Remember, it's liberals who fought the National Guard and police to bring abut labor unions; liberals signed up for WWII as much as any other group; liberals often work as teachers and social workers in the most dangerous areas. I don't see many conservatives venturing into the bad parts of Boston (probably because of their irrational fears). I used to live in Roxbury and never had any problems, though I also did what I could to avoid them.
