Welcome to Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots host the Lions today (1 p.m. ET).

The current temperature is 40 degrees and it's sunny. The flag in the south end of the stadium is hardly rippling.

Scouts from the Vikings and Dolphins are scheduled to be in attendance today. The Lions host the Vikings next week, while the Dolphins entertain the Patriots.

In Sunday's Boston Globe (http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2006/12/03/driven_toward_success/), defensive end Ty Warren is profiled by columnist Jackie MacMullan in a piece that details Warren's long road to the NFL.

With Jeff Triplette scheduled to referee today's game, this marks the first time that the Patriots have had the same ref this season. The team has had games officiated by Terry McAulay, Scott Green, Gerry Austin, Bill Vinovich, Ed Hochuli, Triplette, Larry Nemmers, Peter Morelli, Ron Winter, Mike Carey and Walt Coleman.

We'll have more throughout the day.

I don't post during the game because I'm too intense.

So, I'll just say that I hope we see a Patriots team that is focused and play a good hard, clean game and put this team away early.:rocker:

this game will be a bloodbath. You can take that to the bank.

Then you'll have to clean "it" off because it will be covered in so much blood from the Bloodbath.

A bloodbath, wait and see.

Alrighty I'd be happy with a 28-14 Pats win here or something like that. We've gotta take care of teams that we should beat if we want the #2 seeed. Go Pats! Listening in on radio. In some ways its better than tv broadcast.

Wow Maroney is averaging 29 yards per kickoff return. We haven't had that good a returner since Jon Vaughn. And Maroney is an even more promising running back. Talk about a big rookie contributor! I'm hoping he gets some looks against this Lions D. If we can dominate the ground we're going to win.

5 penalties in just over a quarter. Belichick has to be FUMING. And Brady took a hard hit earlier with two Lions lifting him up and driving him into the ground (but no sissy flags this week I guess) and now he's sacked.

Inconsistent execution. This team just doesn't get it. Belichick has been warning them for weeks now that you can't just show up, you have to practice and play like every game is the biggest challenge you have faced to date. Otherwise on any given Sunday bad things can happen.

Reiss:

Analysis from the first half of the Patriots-Lions game, with the Patriots leading 13-10:

Uninspiring football. Not much to like here from a Patriots perspective, other than a late second-quarter touchdown drive to tie the game at 10, and another interception by CB Asante Samuel.

Six penalties and one Patrick Pass lost fumble highlight the long list of poor play. Four of the penalties were holding, and one -– a neutral zone infraction by rookie linebacker Corey Mays on a punt -– was essentially a turnover because it gave the ball back to the Lions. Furthermore, the Patriots’ offensive line is not holding up consistently at the point of attack, which each lineman having at least one significant breakdown.

A key part of the game has been the Patriots’ lack of success in the red zone, which has been a strong point this season.

Overall, the team played down to the level of its competition, the 2-9 Lions.

The Lions get the ball to start the second half.
