Welcome to Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots host the Dolphins today (1 p.m. ET).

The field between the hash marks still looks worn. Earlier in the week, coach Bill Belichick said the field has less sand than it did for the team's game against the Broncos on Sept. 24.

A few pre-game notes:

* Patriots WR Doug Gabriel aims for a touchdown in the third game in a row for the first time in his four-year career.

* Dolphins DE Jason Taylor has 95.5 career sacks. In his past 10 games vs. the Patriots, Taylor has 7.5 sacks.

* Dolphins WR Chris Chambers has at least one catch in 51 straight games.

* Ed Hochuli is the referee for today's game. Hochuli's crew has called an average of 14.8 penalties per game. The league average through four weeks is 13.97.

We'll plan on passing along notes throughout the day.

What's the temp down there?

Just wondering if Hochuli is gonna be showing off his massive guns with his 2 sizes too small uniform. :)

Ed hates having to wear sleeves.

I think he's better than Culpepper so this isn't great news but either way we should win.

bah, now instead of 4 INT's and 6 sacks,we might only get 2 INT's and 4 sacks.

Scout's take

Three NFL scouts have been issued credentials for today's Patriots-Dolphins game. Scouts from the Bills, Jets and Packers are scheduled to be in attendance.

After their bye, the Patriots face the Bills on Oct. 22. The Dolphins face the Jets next week (Miami's third straight road game) and then host Green Bay on Oct. 22.

Sunday morning warmup

Good morning all --

It is a beautiful early October morning here at Gillette Stadium as things come alive for the Pats-Dolphins game.

Mike Vrabel wins the award as the first New England player on the field, followed a few minutes later by Mike Wright, Chad Jackson, Doug Gabriel and David Thomas.

We'll be back soon when there's more going on down on the field.

Posted by Albert Breer at 10:32 am

About three hours before kickoff, and it’s coming clear why the Patriots spent Thursday’s practice on the stadium field. Between the hashmarks, the grass is all either dead or gone and the dirt remaining is covered with green spray paint, so footing up the middle may be sketchy. It’s a brisk 56 degrees here with just about no wind and temperatures expected to be in the mid-60s at gametime.

For now, here some links from today’s papers:

Mike Felger’s Inside the Huddle leads off with the idea of Randy Moss getting traded (http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/view.bg?articleid=161268&format=text) to the Patriots. Felger’s also got a look at how the result of this game could produce two very differing perspectives (http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/view.bg?articleid=161272&format=text) on the team heading into the bye.

A little more off the beaten path, Steve Buckley checks out Jarvis Green’s relief efforts (http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/view.bg?articleid=161273&format=text) in his native Louisiana. And for all the stories and breakdowns, check out the Herald’s Patriots page (http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots.bg).

In the MetroWest Daily News, we got a story on the roles situational players (http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sportsColumnists/view.bg?articleid=142310&format=text) like Green and Kevin Faulk play for the Patriots, plus four keys (http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sportsColumnists/view.bg?articleid=142313) to a New England win.

We’ll be back with more from a still-quiet Gillette.

I don't know why we are sooo confident that we will beat Miami for sure. IMO, Nick Saban and his Dolphins have been pushed into a corner and this is their last ditch effort to salvage this season before all is lost. They will come out firing and they won't go down without a fight. I am not even confident we will get ONE INT, let alone 2, or 4

Let's go out there, play smart, play hard, and go to 4-1! :rocker:

P.S. If anybody is to get a INT this game, I want it to be Junior :rocker:

EDIT: Oh hey y'all, come over to the Patsfans chat, last time there were only 2 of us in there (granted the site went down) and it'd be nice to see some of you guys in there.

Thanks Chris,

I was not aware that Graham had a injury that would cuase him to miss this game. Wilson, i wasnt expecting him too, let him rest up we need him down the stretch. Same could be said for Graham too i guess.

OTOH Evans has slowly been doing a solid job on our offense blocking wise.

Joey's career numbers for those who have forgotten:

54.7% completion rate
60TD/62INT in 58 CAREER GAMES
18 Wins 37 Losses in 55 CAREER STARTS
68.1% CAREER QB RATING

Mike Martz chose Kitna rather than deal with Joey.

This is Saban taking the talking heads advice - starting Joey on three days of practice to see if he is any better than Culpepper. If he is the shoulder becomes a bigger concern and Culpepper sits and rests his knees until Joey spits the bit. If he isn't it's back to Daunte and Miami's season is flushed.

Corey is lookin' good so far - he's still so much more the pile driver. Maroney tends to hesitate looking for that hole. When he finds it he's gone, but Corey when he's healthy makes his own holes.

The 'slot guy' is WELKER, their #1 WR this season.

Hobbs was in perfect position. With a proper pass rush that pass would have never gotten off so pretty. It was a perfect throw and a great catch. Perfect position by the CB can't stop that. The pass rush CAN. They have been playing badly against the pass on the DL for most of the season, this is not Hobb's fault.
