Amazing that he made it this long. I liked them a lot better after he "left" anyway.

Sorry to hear that. I understand the band member took care of him over the years. I liked to early PF stuff with Syd.

Remember when you were young You shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes Like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the crossfire Of childhood and stardom Blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr and shine. You reached for the secret too soon, You cried for the moon. Shine on you crazy diamond. Threatened by shadows at night, And exposed in the light. Shine on you crazy diamond. Well you wore out your welcome With random precision, Rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine.

No doubt the continuing members found quite a bit of "inspriation" in his mental illness - Dark Side of course was a bit of a rock opera about him, but its none too flattering... nor did "Wish You Were Here" pull any punches, though I'd bet that "Shine on..." winds up being the tribute song ("Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun; Shine on you crazy diamond; Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.") But as far as "making it this far" lots of people live for a very long time with Diabetes, so its not all that surprising... his mental illness, exacerbated by a LOT of LSD didn't leave him as a functioning member of society, but given the Pink Floyd royalties he received, he lived quite comfortably from what I understand |

"A Pillow of Winds" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are excellent choices. Funny, the first song that came to my mind was "Interstellar Overdrive" for Syd is now going on the ultimate cosmic journey.

Living your life to the thresholds of sanity tends to shorten it dramatically.
That being said, I have lost a few years myself. Syd was well before his time. He got kicked out of his own band!!!! Shine on you crazy diamond is a tribute to him.
