Amazing that he made it this long. I liked them a lot better after he "left" anyway.

Yes -- everyone assumed that he was already gone. (He was the only PF person I liked.)

I agree, on both counts. Quite how he made it this far is anyone's guess. Now, what song would you play at his funeral? Dark Side of the Moon? Goodbye Cruel World?

"A Pillow Of Winds"

Quote:
A Pillow of Winds
A cloud of eiderdown
Draws around me
Softening a sound.
Sleepy time, and I lie,
With my love by my side,
And she's breathing low.

And the candle dies.

When night comes down
You lock the door.
The book falls to the floor.
As darkness falls
The waves roll by,
The seasons change
The wind is wry.

Now wakes the hour
Now sleeps the swan
Behold the dream
The dream is gone.
Green fields are calling
It's falling, in a golden door.

And deep beneath the ground,
The early morning sounds
And I go down.
Sleepy time, and I lie,
With my love by my side,
And she's breathing low.

And I rise, like a bird,
In the haze, when the first rays
Touch the sky.

And the night wings die.

Sorry to hear that. I understand the band member took care of him over the years. I liked to early PF stuff with Syd.

I can only be Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Remember when you were young
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr and shine.
You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine.

Probably none of the above since he didn't write or perform any of those songs or albums

No doubt the continuing members found quite a bit of "inspriation" in his mental illness - Dark Side of course was a bit of a rock opera about him, but its none too flattering... nor did "Wish You Were Here" pull any punches, though I'd bet that "Shine on..." winds up being the tribute song ("Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun; Shine on you crazy diamond; Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.")

But as far as "making it this far" lots of people live for a very long time with Diabetes, so its not all that surprising... his mental illness, exacerbated by a LOT of LSD didn't leave him as a functioning member of society, but given the Pink Floyd royalties he received, he lived quite comfortably from what I understand

"A Pillow of Winds" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are excellent choices. Funny, the first song that came to my mind was "Interstellar Overdrive" for Syd is now going on the ultimate cosmic journey.

Living your life to the thresholds of sanity tends to shorten it dramatically.

That being said, I have lost a few years myself.

Syd was well before his time.

He got kicked out of his own band!!!!

Shine on you crazy diamond is a tribute to him.
