Default Congratulations to Italy

It was a hard road to the Final -- a lot of good teams fell by the wayside. Finally, at the end of everything, only one was left standing.

Congratulations to them -- and thanks to all for a great World Cup.

Now, when's training camp?

I loved this World Cup...except for 2 or 3 games in the beginning
even the round 1 games were solid. The game's speed has increased from years ago.
I hope casual soccer fans enjoyed it and will get their kids signed up to play this great game.

Great news! Not that I care who won or anything about soccer.

France just can't lose enough.

Congratulations to the Azzuri!! I think overall they deserve it. Not the greatest game ever played, but I'm sure all Italians won't be giving a toss as long as that trophy is heading back to their homeland.
Well done.

Congrats to Italy!!!
Great to see perfidious France lose again. Since I can't stand watching paint dry, soccer or baseball, I assume that France surrendered in OT.

Maybe this is a good time to start a thread of Italian jokes, no?

For the life of me, I have no idea why Italy sat on their hands after the red card gave them the man advantage. And why not extend the last OT to a sudden death without a shootout? Not a good way to end the greatest sports event, IMO.

I can't answer the first. Having played the game certainly helps. At its best (which you don't often see, I admit) soccer lives up to the late Brian Clough's descripton of it as "the people's ballet".

I think that you'll have to go to the Political Forum to get an answer to the second.
