Even as a conservative, I didn't hate Clinton. I lost all respect when he lied under oath - as did many in uniform.
The sad thing is, when the investigation was underway, had Clinton just said "Yes, I did have sex with that woman" it would have left the media, the right, and everyone else nowhere to go. He would have gained a lot of points witht he military for showing some sense of personal responsibility. But he didn't, and instead showed his true colors. |

Harry Boy made a very cogent point here that probably went over people's heads.
We all are family here in the USA and much like any family, we bicker and squabble and fight. However, when one of our family members gets into it with an "outsider", we immediately have their backs. "Never take sides against the family" - Michael Corleone |

I don't think too many liberals would be willing to see the enemy march in here and take over America. I've had buddies run their mouth on more than one drinking ocassion, leading to a fight. It didn't matter that he was wrong, I jumped in there and fought for my friend. However, once the fight is over, you can be sure my friend heard (from all of us) how much of an idiot he was. And you can be sure that if it kept happening, I'd find new friends to hang out with. That's where we are in America right now. Nobody wants to see us fail in Iraq, but we don't want to pick any more needless fights either.

"President Clinton is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy." -Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), 1998 "Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?" -Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99 "Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is." -Governor George W. Bush (R-TX), 1998 Bombing a sovereign nation for ill-defined reasons with vague objectives undermines the American stature in the world. The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly." -Representative Tom Delay (R-TX), 1998 |
