It got to the point where I was pouring jugs of cold water over my head to: a) cool off, and b) get clean. That said, though, I would rather deal with that heat again than the extreme cold.

Live in the same neighborhood as a police chief or a city councilman.

The eye of Hurricane Wilma passed right over my house and power was back in 12 hours. Some other places within 5 miles? 3 weeks...

Some luck was likely involved too, but the crews seem to get the word to get the house of the police chief, or that of a FPL friend in local government, lit back up again ASAP!

LOL. Now I know what happened. My husband's business partner is a local alderman who always butts heads with the mayor. They must have dropped us to the end of the line...

I don't know how long we'll have power here in New Hampshire at the rate things seem to be going, but I just wanted to let everyone know that if the site does go down, it sounds like it won't be for very long.

In the meantime I hope everyone stays safe, and hopefully it will be over soon.
Who's idea was it to put the servers for PatsFans.com so close to the New Jersey Jets? Seems like a tactical weakness. It's only about 20 miles from Florham Park, NJ. Maybe Ian ought to take down the Jets suck threads. Surely there'e somebody on I-495 that could host this site.
Ian likes this.

They usually get hospitals, fire stations, police stations, shelters, nursing homes etc., powered up first. Then they branch out from there.

If the power companies had enough crews unemployment would drop two percent, but God forbid they should lower profits !

I don't know - the thing about the cold is you can at least add layers. With the heat there's only so much you can take off. Plus the sun down there is just piercing. I had never been down there during that time of year.

I'll put it to you this way. We got to the hotel and my son took all of 6 minutes to break one of his sandals. So since we had rented a car, we drove to a local Walmart because I had seen it on the way in. When we got there, I couldn't get a space close so we were parked at the far part of the lot and I swear the walk from the car across the lot felt like what hell must be like the way the heat was radiating off the pavement. It was unreal.

It's only 73 here today ! I'm freezing to death ! I actually had to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants today. I've been in shorts and sandals since March.
I'll take these summers over that frozen wasteland any day.

I'm reading on twitter that two different cranes have broken in NYC and are dangling; will likely fall to street.

You'd think that they probably would have done something with the cranes due to a HURRICANE coming to town.
