Just want to throw in my $.02. I like the rep system and used it a lot on the Planet before I left. Also I never gave anybody negative rep unless they were a total troll (in which case it didn't matter anyway, since they usually went right to the Asylum or were banned) or the time a guy really pissed me off and that was when I decided to leave the place anyhoo. But if it was just a little tiff I was having with somebody I wasn't even going to bother giving them negative because I wasn't going to change their mind.

Otherwise I only left positive. It was just a neat little way of saying that someone really contributed to the discussion and/or said something really clever. I can see how it would turn into a popularity contest, etc.

In other words, I liked it but I can see why other people don't like it.

Ehhh.... if I could get a positive rep, you'll have no problems.

But you're so popular, even if you're not cool.

Does your mother know you're doing this?

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
