Can confirm ESPN report the Bills have hired Mike Pettine as their DC. Have to wonder if Rob Ryan replaces Pettine on Rex Ryan's D in NY
For just the shear entertainment value I hope the Ryan brothers are united.

I'm intrigued by Jones using Rob Ryan as a scapegoat when there are far greater problems in Dallas than an average coordinator.
Absolutely. Also the Cowboys rank 4th in the league in giveaways, it's hard to see any DC doing much more in that spot.

A coach who uses injuries as an excuse, is what Rob Ryan has always been as a DC, a loser.
Look at his job performance. With or without injuries, he has been a bad DC.
Being part of a good staff in NE is good by association, the job he has done has been poor. Other than drawing attention to himself, he is great at that.

I think the Jets already made Dennis Turman DC

The Google has many stories saying Thurman is expected to be named DC. There's still a chance!

That is an unfair characterization. The Cowboys defense was clearly improved under Ryan. In year one, the Cowboys went from 31st to 16th in scoring defense. This year, with all the injuries, the defense was still better than it had been the year before he got there, coming in at 24th. Both years were both better in points scored, regardless of ranking, and the difference between the year he arrived and his first year was a full 99 points.

The defense also showed improvement in Cleveland in year 2, after a decline in his first year there.

Points allowed (ranking):
16
21
13

Yards allowed:
26
31
22

Points allowed (totals):
350
375
332

He had the Browns playing better defense than they'd been playing under Crennel.

Unless Pettine changes his stripes, we're going to have 2 Rex Ryan style defenses in the AFCE moving forward. Pettine doesn't have a Revis or Cromartie, though, so I don't know who he'll pivot the gameplan around as of now.

That's a good move for Buffalo. Pettine is a good Defensive Coordinator and understands the offenses in the division. Doug Marrone, the new HC ofthe Bills did excellent work with Drew Brees and the Saints, as well as helping put together a decent offense with the Jets in the early 2000s.

Pettine has a great deal of talent to work with in Buffalo and enough experience to make things interesting for the Patriots next year. I like what they're doing up there and I wish them success.

Firing Ryan is like putting a bandaid on a gunshot would.

From my vantage, the most salient causes of the franchise's mediocrity are lousy scouting and talent acquisition (Jones) and lousy head coaching (Garrett). Easy to see why Ryan would be scapegoated, though.

Well, you can feel that way if you like, but I am not impressed by someone who has been a DC for something like 9 years and never has had a defense that could be considered good, because his average defenses were better than the guy who got fired before him.
By yuor argument if KCs next HC wins 3 games he is doing a good job.
