Default Reality Arriving...

I was over viewing Jets Insider where Reality seems to be arriving VERY slowly. But arriving it is. Despite the braggadocio and inveterate trench-mouth.

They did have a long post and good discussion of how to get two good O-Linemen and a fair to good guy, Moore, along with a guy who is going to miss half the season, and an absolute Bust provide 5 starting Offensive linemen. Forget about a thing called "depth".

No matter how they tug and push and put the puzzle pieces together, D'Brick and a Mangold and maybe Moore and yes Slauson and eventually Turner in about 8 games, with Buster Ducasse, it doesn't seem to add up to five starters. And even if they find an adequate fifth guy, for some reason there does not seem to be a powerful run game there.

Their up-and-coming nominee from nowhere, was just up and cut by Rex, the other day.

Another long post discussed how the Pass Rush and pressures have steadily declined over the past two going on three years. Jester fans are sure that Devito and two rookies will provide all the pass rush needed, provided one doesn't end up in jail or deported. Depth: What's that?

Jester fans say it is no problem to replace guys like Kris Jenkins, Shawn Ellis, Jason Taylor, with" all stars" like Mike DeVito, who is a dedicated journey man, Slone Pouha and PS squad Ropati Pitoitua, not to mention the two rookies, Wilkerson and Ellis. I'm sure that Devito, Pouha and Wilkerson will play, but that is NOT a terrifying D-line for opposition OCs to dread in 2011. More sounds of whistling by the Graveyard.

Some other fans posted that Buriss has already suffered an ankle and back injury, and Mason doesn't seem to have any speed left. Surprise ?

Still another poster noted that the running game didn't seem to be producing any results. Could it be that Ladanian is feeling his age, only three years after being dumped by the Chargers? It is all on Shone Greene now. Depth? There is always the non-entity that Jets cut Danny Woodhead to save, Joe McKnight. Another all star bust selection to join Tanney's other picks.

Still other posters are wondering if the League is catching up to Wreck's blitzes?

As holes are appearing all over the Dike, Jester fans are resolute that Tanny is a genius at scouting talent (Robertson? Gholston?? Ducasse???), and will pull multiple rabbits out of his hat, the next few weeks. As regards "depth", the Jets haven't needed it for the past two seasons. Why start now?

Meanwhile there is high hopes that Buffalo Bust, Aaron Maybin might be able to be salvaged, maybe next year, after he gains 30 pounds, that the Bills couldn't add. They all concede he has more speed than anyone on the Jets front 7, but gets readily trampled against the run.

Yes, Reality is returning. Slowly...

As a personal observation:

I am still puzzled why the Jets Boards both JI and Gangrene, are the only ones to allow this much trench-mouth, by the posters. You really don't need to swear in every sentence with sexual innuendo, but it seems to be not only the norm, but excessively the norm, almost 'de riguer'.

For blogs of interest to, and open to kids, can't they clean it up a mite? I almost feel soiled visiting there. All other team blogs whatever the city, are much cleaner.

It just backs up what we have discussed. Sanchez holds the key to their season. If he makes the step up (which I think he will, just not sure what the degree of that improvement will be), he provides someone for the rest of the team to rally around. If they believe in him, they can play some inspired football.

But a breaking Dam will leak..

Visiting the Jets boards every now and then really makes me even further appreciate how well this site is ran and moderated.

It's like some type of frat-boy environment over there, where you're more likely to see derogatory homophobic posts and other nonsense about opposing players instead of actual analysis.

I don't think it will take much for the fans to jump ship. If they lose a couple of their first 4 games it will completely shake the confidence of the team and the fan base coming into NE week 5. Not having guys like Ellis, Woody and Cotchery in the locker room to calm everbodies nerves could do them in.

The Jets may not have depth, but don't write them off. That defense will still be solid and evening dangerous. Hopefully LT lost a step, but we can't count on it. Plexico is looking good and Keller is a beast. Defintely a team not to sleep on.

I also think they wll shape their lines up, give em time

At this point, I don't think it's his hat where he's going to have to start pulling rabbits out of. In the end, it's going to leave some ugly stretch marks.

Rex and Tanny both are doing their best impressions of the Wizard of Oz, but that green curtain has been pulled back from Emerald City and folks aren't going to much like what they see this season. That JETS team is one or two injuries away from finishing in the top 10....... of next's years draft order.

It's a long season, let them have their hopes now. And after the last two seasons, even if they blow the regular season, anything can happen in the PO's if you make it there.

Imagine how effed they'd be without that gift from the new CBA. They deserved to be devastated after they tried to buy a championship for consecutive years. Teams should not be rewarded for that type of BS.

I tried recently at JI to start some decent football talk -- roster analysis, etc. -- and was excoriated: "Go back to patsfags.com!" "GFY troll!" "***** you!" "Dumbass!" etc., etc. They just aren't interested in hearing perspective from opposing fans. About anything. But what's worse is the whole "perception of reality" you allude to. They genuinely believe because of the playoff win last season that they have overtaken the Patriots, that the Pats are "desperate" with their recent signings and are on the decline.

Now, I'm well known around here for bashing the Green Beans but I try to have fun with it and limit it to our infamous Jest Suck thread, not when REAL football talk is happening that we can hopefully learn something from. On the other hand, the sheer vitriol at JI is serious. I posted about the nasty language they use and a mod responded by telling me to man-up. So there you have it.

Agreed. It's interesting to note that the majority of members on this board are more than happy to have reasonable conversations with fans from other teams who visit and are willing to talk football objectively, and not just smack. FOOT's (Fans Of Other Teams) who show up with an attitude or just to try and get banned, etc, aren't tolerated well, nor should they be.

But those who honestly want a candid discussion are always welcome. They ought to remember, though, that this is our front porch, and we should remember to act the same way when we visit their sites.
