Welcome to Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots (7-3) host the Bears (9-1) today at 4:15 p.m. ET.

The scope of the game is reflected in the large number of reporters scheduled to be in attendance from national print media outlets. The list includes CBS Sportsline, ESPN the Magazine, ESPN.com, Los Angeles Times, NBCSports.com, New York Daily News, New York Post, New York Times, Sports Illustrated, SI.com, USA Today and the Washington Post.

Advance scouts from the Lions, Vikings and Rams have been granted credentials for the game. The Patriots host the Lions next weekend, while the Bears host the Vikings.

Walt Coleman is scheduled to be the referee for today's game. Coleman's crew has called an average of 9.4 assessed penalties per game, the second lowest figure in the NFL behind Peter Morelli (8.7). The league average is 12.2 assessed penalties per game.

Coleman's crew has also had 15 challenges, with five reservals. The 33 percent reversal rate is slightly higher than the league average of 32 percent.

We'll have more updates throughout the day.

I honestly think the Pats will win by at least 2 touchdowns. The Bears have caught break after break in several games. Not only that, but they have also played teams with many of their best players injured or players making uncharacteristic mistakes.

Vs. Arizona - should have lost, Rackers misses easy fg for him along with tons and tons of other lucky crap

Vs. Giants
Arrigton, Toomer, Osi Umenura(sp), Strahan injured before game. Madison and Pettigoat injured during the game.

Vs. Vikings
Fluke fumble by Chester Taylor. Minnesota dropped 3 interceptions from what i saw. More lucky garbage

Vs. JEts lucky 10 yard pass turned into 70 yard td to Mark Bradley. Pennington throws 2 picks in redzone (very uncharacteristic).

I refuse to believe that their D is that good to cause all these results. Because they are not. This team has been beyond lucky and unless they are incredibly lucky yet again, they will lose and lose big.

The luck has to run out sometime: (see first home playoff game after bye in '01 and '05)

Betting line has climbed from 3 to 4.5 (current)

The Pats team total is 20.5 (-125 over) which I think is a strong bet. Game total is 38 but I'm not touching that.

I think this will be a close game.A win for us,but a very close one.We are at crunch time and cannot afford a loss down the stretch.Watching this Steelers-Ravens game makes me nervous. The ravens are all about ball control.Oh well,GO PATS..Bring us a W men...

Bring on the main event. I'm getting tired of the prelim on TV here (SF - Rams). However, this young SF team is probably on the way back up.

Samuel loosens up
CB Asante Samuel is among the players on the field loosening up at this time. Samuel, who has been hampered by a nagging knee injury, is questionable for today's game. The team's inactive players should be released about an hour before kickoff.

Game conditions
Conditions are about as warm and calm as one could expect at this time of year in Foxborough. Temperatures are in the mid-50s and the flags in the stadium are hardly rippling.

Pats' inactives
Inactive players for the Patriots today:

S Eugene Wilson
CB/S Chad Scott
S Rodney Harrison
LB Corey Mays
OL Wesley Britt
DL Le Kevin Smith
DE Marquise Hill
Vinny Testaverde -- 3rd quarterback

The Patriots also announced the activation of RB Patrick Pass off the physically unable to perform list. Pass is active today.
It's good to that Samuel is not on that list.
Is anyone else a little worried about Eugene Wilson? I hope that he makes it back for the playoffs.

Usually I would be confident about us winning this game, but we're a team that has lost 3 home games. So much for home field advantage. Plus a brand new field. I see this as a toss up.
