OT: Herald Editors & their stories
Just in case there was any question as to why the Herald ran Tomase's fiction earlier this year, this may shed some light on the Herald's business plan and their editor's decision making process. Though this is not about Tomase and the Walsh story, I think it's pertinent because it does give a glimpse in to how the paper is perceived by others, and what they decide to publish - and where they get that info.
Here's a link to the full story, which involved a source of the Herald's - the one and only National Enquirer - to settle a lawsuit for publishing false and defamatory stories.
Quote:
The case file does include a few e-mails revealing the Enquirer's strategy for placing the Kennedy story with other newspapers and TV shows. According to one e-mail exchange, the Boston Herald was given the story a day ahead of everyone else and Ken Chandler, then the top editor at the Herald, promised to "run it big (possibly page one)."
The Herald's January 2006 story had a front-page presence and ran prominently on BostonHerald.com, the paper's website. That December, BostonHerald.com reported the story ... was the fifth-most popular story on the site for that year.
