It would have been more interesting if the lighthouse had just disappeared overnight and somehow ended up in Cali. The Coast Guard moving it makes the story kind of boring.

Did they put it on milk cartons?

"Have you seen this lighthouse? About 30 feet tall, 11 023.1131 pounds. Last seen wearing white around Wellfleet..."

You'd have thought records would have shed some light on it's whereabouts...
