Default Worst Movies of All Time

Saw "2012" on cable the other night and it immediately shot to the top of my list as one of the absolutely worst movies I've ever seen. It was so bad, in fact, that my lady and I had to watch it to the bitter finish because we couldn't comprehend how such an awful film would end. And it was long -- more than two and a half hours of unmitigated stupidity.

I now feel inspired to list other bombs I've unfortunately witnessed. A couple that immediately come to mind:

The Squid and the Whale (2005) -- horridly tepid melodrama about a young boy with a masturbation problem.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) -- Bill Murray's worst film, seemed made up as they went along.

More to come, feel free to add yours.

I recently suffered through "Spread" with Ashton Kutcher. Just awful.

Fortunately, I have a bad memory for terrible movies, but Brewster McCloud (Robert Altman) sticks because it was a terrible movie by a great director and Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson) because it pretended to be clever and deep while in fact being stupid and shallow.

Anything by Micheal Moore

Beaches, the Notebook, or any other female drama/tear jerker. I'd rather have another root canal without novacaine than go to one of those.

Titanic.

Docu-tradgedies like Shindlers List.

Look, I go to the movies for pure feral escapism. Bombs. machine guns. sex. Yippie Kay Yay motha*uck*r

Clifford (1993?) - God, this movie sucked. I don't even remember what it was about, but it had Martin Short in it.

History of Violence (2005) - Yeah, the arthouse patrons love it because it's Sonnenberg, but it was horrible. Horrible plot, terrible acting, poorly scripted characters. The theme had potential, though. What a waste.

Day After Tomorrow (2004) - Along the lines of 2012 (I think, I haven't seen it), this film actually became the inspiration behind how I watch bad movies. I skip the scene if it starts to offer awfulness that isn't funny enough to laugh at.

Hitch (2007?) - I only made it five minutes...

The Spirit (2009) - Both my wife and I wanted to walk out, but thought the other one was enjoying it.

MI:II (2000?) - Seeing it while drunk with friends saved the evening.

Pretty much anything with Michael Bay's name in it. I like action and some comedy mixed in, but I hate, hate, hate Michael Bay movies.

That's all I have for now...I'm sure there are others I'll think of.

Good call. I had forgotten about that one, but it's up there for me as well.

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

Roland Emmerich is the director/creator of "2012." He also did "10,000 B.C.," "Godzilla," "Day After Tomorrow" and "Independence Day." He and Michael Bay are the kings of epic idiocy. Just think what filmmakers with genuine talent and vision could do with their budgets.

Very true. I had forgotten about Emmerich. I liked Stargate (the film), though, even if it was a bit flawed.
