Extras doesn't do it for me but I'll second the British and US "Office" sitcoms as time well spent. "Arrested Development" is my all time favorite - funny on a whole number of different levels - but one needs to be smart enough to understand the jokes sometimes - which I think is why it failed (it officially "jumped the shark", when guest star Henry Winkler hopped over a dead shark on the dock)
