Nah. Most of the people in the North who hate the South are staying there and have no desire whatsoever to move. A broken up United Kingdom isn't inconceivable, though.

I think that there is a potentially very big social unrest problem brewing in this country (to do with social and racial tensions, with a population which grew by 1% last year due to immigration), but that's for the political forum...

Pleased to hear you don't think a civil war is likely. Living in the Midlands (and not far from Naseby and Bosworth) I suspect we'd be caught in the middle...

My advice: duck. Not a quick one but a good, all-the-way-to-the-floor duck.

Unrest is headed for most places in the world...there's no place to hide from poverty, fear, and hate anymore....cameras are everywhere.

Actually I think English political discussions are most definitely intended for the pub but I can understand your trepidation....

LOL. I suspect any civil war wouldn't get off the ground, unless it was part of an X factor style TV show. "Vote now! Which battalion do YOU want eliminated in today's battle?".

Sadly, you are almost certainly right. Mind you, there's every bit as much intelligent discourse in Dancing On Ice (which my children are addicted to) as there is in parliament, so it is possible that taking all decisions by using a reality game show format might actually represent a dramatic improvement.

We are all doomed.

You lot have it all wrong.

Most people generally mean Londoners or at least the London commuter belt when they talk about 'The South'.

Northerners complain a lot about how we are arrogant, don't speak English properly etc. etc. etc.

We have better things to do than moan about the North which can be quite pretty in a rather bleak way but has added little to English culture other than chips and gravy (sounds foul, tastes fab).

London is the best, which is why so many 'Northerners' live here, including the one sitting at my elbow trying to sabotage my spelling.

BTW if you want to know my real attitude, I've lived with Mr G Cat for over 4 years and went to Liverpool University.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but, why wasn't I registered in time for the kids project

Best thing about being a northerner is when I was based down south, not only did I have a uniform but I also had this thing called a scouse accent. Women still look back and remember the time I rattled them stupid in various locations and military vehicles, Because it was a good or bad experience is not the point

Southern girls love northern guys, southern lads probrably dislike northern lads because they, especially soldiers have probrably slept with their girlfriend on numerous occasions.

I suspect this is true. I'll ask the lass sat next to me, who posts on here occasionally as Miss Gcat (and who, incidentally, went to Uni in Liverpool). We are, of course, better looking, funnier, more intelligent and, erm, better...
