The only DVR I know is Digital Video Recorder and it doesn't seem like that would impact the TV choice ?
There are Digital Video Recorder that can record
HD(hi-definition) signals,so 1080i or 1080p,would
be a worthwhile feature to have.

HD DVD(hi-def dvd players) are the new technology called HD DVD or BLU-RAY,which will show the new HD dvd's in 1080i or p.

If you are planning on getting these, you would be better off with a Tv that can accept 1080p signals.

If not,don't worry about it.

So just using that as an example, it that resolution appropriate for the TV size and is there anything inherently bad about that one ? I'm just trying to get a feel for what would be a flat out bad choice.

As an example, I'd taken a look at this :

Is there anything inherently wrong with this ? Not that I'm about to buy it but as a starting point. OK now I'm confused what does this mean :

HDTV Compatibility 480p/720p/1080i

I thought a TV was one of those, not all three ?
It's semi-BS
If a TV can do the bigger #, it can also do the smaller #

And 1080p is higher tech than 1080i
You'll never notice

1024x768 should be OK. It's hard to say without seeing it. There's some great info here.

Great advice so far.

Check out http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/res...nter-hdtv.html

I live and breath this stuff and can't / don't want to keep up with the latest and greatest technologies. My Mits 48" RPCRT gives me a glorious picture with the right feed.

A few opinions:

1080P TV's might sound cool but your DVD player, cable box, OTA antenna box, or sat receiver won't provide a feed - only the new Blue Ray / HD-DVD players will. I'd only buy one now if the price is right and you will not get ticked off that only 1080i or 720P sources are available to you.

1080i is a broadcast format (and will be for the forseable future) and 720P is a game format. You'll like both equally.

as I said, only my opinion.

Good luck.

Recently, I have had the pleasure of seeing the Boston Red Sox win the World Series And the New England Patriots win three Superbowls. Not bad, eh?

Great chart, Michael - really gives you a sense of just how much bigger an HD image really is in terms of resolution. Numbers don't do it justice.
