I just read another Philip Pullman book (this one I will give to my eight-year-old daughter). It's called I Was a Rat. If I tell you that it does for Cinderella what Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern are Dead did for Hamlet I think that you will get the idea.

Just got Moving the Chains and I'm about 2/3 of the way through it (it helps when you're an insomniac).

Specimen Days by Michael Cunningham (at night), the author of The Hours. Beautiful writing.
Children of Men by P.D. James (at the gym). Not very good, but supposedly just got made into a good movie.
Mastering Digital Printing by Harald Johnson (at my computer). Yes, I'm actually reading it, not just using it as reference. It's considered the best book for figuring out how to get top-notch prints from your digital photos.

That nem chronicles sounds like a science fiction or fantasy book.

Coincidentally The Martian Chronicles IS what I'm reading right now.
