Default What are You Scared of ?

For me ? Heights. Even looking at a picture of a tall tower turns my stomach. I don't know why, I was fine in high school but sometime between then and now I'm become deathly scared of heights

I've always been the fearless type much to my detriment. What really makes my hair stand on end, though, is lawyers. They scare the hell out of me. I know a contract lawyer who is pure evil, and I don't even believe in evil.

My fears are enclosed spaces and fire. If an Underground train stops for too long in a tunnel, I get really anxious. I simply refuse to get on one that is too crowded.

Two things snakes and electrical shock. I got toasted from an ignition coil on an older style automotive electrical system and it still is in the back of my mind.

Good to see you back, Wistah -- hope all is going as well as possible for you. I've been thinking of you.

Heights -- definitely. I dream of heights and falling in my nightmares. I've climbed to the top of mountains and been too scared to go right to the summit to admire the view. I went all the way up the Eiffel Tower with my daughter this spring, though. She really wanted to do it. The top is pretty scary but it's the open lift (elevator) where you can see everything disappearing beneath your feet that really got my attention!

Also a fear of snakes/crocodiles/sharks lurking unseen in the grass/under stones/under the water. I'm fine with snakes in the open, though.

Edit: Also: angry women!

That happened to me once unawares in London! I've been there only three times and had no idea what to expect. I was on a very crowded train that suddenly stopped for what seemed like an eternity in the bowels of the earth. Apparently there was a security issue at our destination that needed to be resolved before our arrival. It was unnerving.

Being in a large, tightly-packed crowd of people that starts to sway as some begin pushing is another claustrophobic experience that unnerves me. I'm not too fond of rats either.

My issues are with acceptance/embarrassment. Jumping out of an airplane is fun. I've done it over 200 times. A job interview with some schmuck who knows next to nothing about the job (I'm applying for) or talking to a woman I'm interested in are still terrifying to me at age 37

The last tall tower I was in was that tall tower in Vegas. I lose my stomach and start sweating sitting here at my computer just remembering how small the Vegas buildings looked from up high. Got to stop.

The funny thing is I'm fine in an airplane. I guess I trust air pressure from 30,000 feet up but not steel from much less high ? I don't get it.

I was really meaning things like Heights, enclosed spaces, etc, but, yeah, if I get through life without needing a lawyer I'll be very happy.

Along these lines, mine would be the IRS. I never intentionally cheat on my taxes. But I'm scared to death of accidentally doing something and having the IRS tell me I owe some huge amount with penalties and interest.

One time I forgot to send my W-2 in. They believed the tax I owed (without the proof from the W-2) but zeroed the tax I'd had withheld. I got this letter in the mail saying I owed some ungodly amount, like $15K or something. I almost died. And because of the legal bull**** in the letter it wasn't until I talked to someone at the IRS that I realized all I had to do was send my W-2 in.
