Our friend Nikki has posted about singiing karaoke and it raised the above question with me. I should say that I have NEVER sung karaoke or been to a bar where it was going on (the closest I've got is trying to sleep while a karaoke competition was being held at a bar in the neighbourhood!)
Rules: you have to elect for ONE final choice. Assume that all songs are available on the karaoke machine. Assume that you are singing solo.* I might want to re-visit this because I can see it going many ways. If I'm really going to make an *ss of myself then why not something really Country and Western -- maybe "Stand By Your Man" or "Wild Side of Life"? Best of all "I Can't Help it if I'm Still in Love with You". Then I think I could do a really passionate Janis Joplin number -- "Piece of My Heart", probably. But, in the end, just because I love singing it so much, I'd try "Let's Do It" (if they had the Oscar Peterson backing for the Ella Fitzgerald version, so much the better). That's my choice (for now!) What's yours? * If we could sing ensemble, an Everly Brothers number would be a very strong contender for me.

"1812 Overture," "Beethoven's Ninth Symphony," "Bat Out of Hell" or perhaps "Bohemian Rhapsody."

I was thinking just the other end of the spectrum. Billy Joel's Don't go changing or My Life. He's definitely in my vocal range. Or lack there of. ![]()

Oh I missed this thread......I HAVE sung:
Killing Me Softly (Lauren Hill/Fugees) Love Shack (disasterous, who knew there were so many words that weren't love shack!) Hit Me Baby One More Time (Britney Spears) If I Could Turn Back Time (Cher) I Will Survive (picture 3 drunk chicks, one extremely bitter after being dumped) There might be a few others that I am just not thinking of. I love karoake!! |

I've done Karaoke a few times, and I guess if I was in a competition I'd have to say I'd sing Smooth by Santana. I did that one time and it went over pretty well

Anything by Slayer. Thats about the extent of my vocal range.
If I was drunk enough I would probably attempt Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. I can hack through that one pretty well. Or Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray. |

I've sung at a Karaoke bar only once: "Breakup Song" by the Greg Kihn Band.
I was looking for "Jeopardy." |
