Chunk of Original Earth Found : Discovery News

Quote:
magine you suddenly discovered part of your umbilical cord was still attached. Scientists just did that for the planet Earth. What's been found is a clear sign that beneath the crust in northern Canada there is a chunk of pristine, undisturbed rock from the time when Earth was nothing but molten rock.

The evidence comes in the form of lava rocks that, themselves, are a mere 60 million years old. But these rocks contain an early Earth mixture of helium, lead and neodymium isotopes which suggest the mantle rock beneath the crust that yielded them is a virgin pocket of Earth's original material.

That pocket had survived for 4.5 billion years under Baffin Island without being mixed by plate tectonics or erupted onto the surface.

Did the rock start bleeding and crying when they unearthed it?

1. "That's the Big Guy for you -- always messing with the atheists' heads!"

2. "So, you believe what the papers say? Do you know who owns the newspapers?"

3. [Puts fingers in ears] "Can't hear you! Can't hear you! NA! NA! NA! NA-NA!"

Not that I believe in creationism (because I don't), but the Out of Africa theory seems to agree with them when it comes to modern humans...

Recent African origin of modern humans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
According to some genetic and fossil evidence, archaic Homo sapiens evolved to anatomically modern humans solely in Africa, between 200,000 and 100,000 years ago, with members of one branch leaving Africa by 60,000 years ago and over time replacing earlier human populations such as Neanderthals and Homo erectus. The recent single origin of modern humans in East Africa is the near-consensus position held within the scientific community.[1]

As far as numbers go, 4.5 billion is pretty small. Adding even a small exponent to that is pretty trivial and gives you something vastly bigger than that number in seconds. Or input it into any number of non-linear functions and the real fun starts. That's pretty easy to comprehend. If you need something simple, just use analogies. Like grains of sand on the beach, then beaches covering whole continents, oceans, worlds, etc. Just don't try to count the results!
