Are competitive eaters athletes? - New England Patriots Forums

Not sure why, but this has been asked on sports channels. Some say you have to train extensively to eat in these competitions. I say no. What do you think?

Absolutely not. I don't even know why they broadcast these things. But I guess it's like a train wreck- people can't look away.

Then again, the thought of 53 hot dogs in my stomach?? Vomit.

It's a freak show -- circus performers, at best.

Well, William "Refrigerator" Perry was an athlete, and he always ate competitively ... with himself.
