Italy have yet to play a really good team. They didn't excel against Australia or (despite the scoreline) the Ukraine. But they did enough. Germany should be slight favourites, given that they knocked out Argentina (not by much, admittedly ...) and have the twelfth man on their side (no, I don't mean the referee ).

I make France strong favourites against Portugal -- not just because I have hated the way that Portugal play the game. They were poor against England while France, after a very slow start, were excellent against Brazil.

Italy, as you mentioned correctly, arrived at semi-finals without playing with a very good team (but in our first round 'on the paper' it was hard as we were with Czech and Ghana - so not so easy).

Germany historically (see 1970 and 1982) 'suffer' us a lot...

it will be necessary a top and well playied game for us to beat, in Germany..., the 'owner of the house'.

still i think that Italy has the possibility to win that game.

Portugal-France ?. PT recovers Deco and Costinha if i'm not wrong - so: a difficult task also for France...

Right about both -- not to mention that Italy absolutely thrashed Germany in the warm-ups to the WC. So I only have a slight feeling for Germany over Italy and wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way.

Maybe it's my emotion in relation to Portugal (how could you not hate them after the Holland game?) but I think it will take more than Deco and Costinha to turn them into a rival to France -- if France continue to play as they have just started to.

i hv seen that in the Uk there is now a lot of hate to Svein Goran...

no polemics on the red to Rooney ? (poor decision imho from ref...)

tuesday i think that Italy-Germany will be seen from millions and millions of people form everywhere...

Yes, there has always been. Some of it is fuelled by nationalism. Some is because the British press is pathologically destructive. Some is because Sven has been caught by the press more than once with his trousers round his ankles, cheating on his girlfriend. Some is because he is (apparently) unemotional.

I'm in two minds. On the one hand, the stuff above is unfair. On the other, there's no doubt that his team choked in the big tournament. If the coach can't get the players performing when it matters, it's his fault.

Well, Rooney's boot definitely went (as the commentator put it) "between Carvalho's legs". If he did that deliberately -- whatever the provocation -- the referee was right. Rooney says it was not deliberate and I can believe that from the TV replay.

Me included! I only hope it is as good a game as France-Brazil.

The winner of the World Cup will come from the Germany/Italy game. I do not believe either Portugal or France will be good enough to beat the winner of that game.
Personally I hope, and believe, it will be Italy. Because of what is happening back home, with the 'cheating' inquiry, and the sad situation concerning Gianluca Pessotto, I think there is a mental toughness about them and a real togetherness. But,what a game! To beat the Germans on home soil. Game of the tournament, no doubt.

Wow. Congrats to the Azzuri! They thoroughly deserved that, from what I saw.
