Why is poker being shown on sports channels? Since when was poker a sport?
I think that I would rather watch worms mate on the Animal Planet than watch poker on TV. What ever happened to five card draw? Now, that was real poker.

It's not a sport. But they must get good ratings so there it is.

Yeah, I don't get all this fascination over poker these days. Not only the inundation on the sports networks but also on other networks such as Discovery. It's spreading out to blackjack as well. It can be interesting to watch at first but gets old fast. The game doesn't translate well to TV. Especially puzzling is all the fervor over the game of Texas Hold 'Em. In terms of poker it's not that skillful of a game..........it's mostly bluffing. I much prefer five card draw or seven card stud, which require more skill and strategy. Oh well, whatever blows your skirt up........................

If they showed strip poker on the sports channels with hot women, then that is a different story. I do agree with you, that it is sad to see poker on tv. Now it gets worse, paintball is now being showed alot as well on ESPN. Also, Ball Room dancing is an Olympic sport. Which now makes poker a sport. I wonder if poker will be an olympic event? Hmmmm.

If a network doesn't want to show a sport, don't get EXCLUSIVE rights to that sport and then show poker. |

There's been a great explosion of interest in poker here in the UK because of on-line poker. Is that legal in the U.S.? Is it what is driving the poker boom?

Online poker isn't what's driving the poker boom. Everything exploded when the Travel Channel started showing the World Poker Tour. I think this Texas Hold 'Em boom is reaching it's peak and things have leveled off a bit and will probably start dropping off a bit in the coming years. |
