Steamers, chowder, clam cakes, lobster rolls, authentic kielbasa and linguica (not like what you usually find in a supermarket)...........these are just some of the food items that I miss from my old hometown. My father used to make some awesome chowder and clam cakes..........I have the family recipe and haven't made it in a long, long time.............gonna have to soon! Another food item I really miss is fried clams............and I'm not referring to clam strips like you find in most places, but the entire soft shell clam body...........soooooooooo good! One of my favorites is the fried Fisherman's Platter...........a heaping amount of fried clams, shrimp, scallops, and fish over a big pile of French Fries..........good stuff! Could easily feed two people off of that. What do they cost these days, around 12 dollars? Here in California something like that would go for around 20-25 bucks (with clam strips or calimari replacing the authentic fried clams). How I miss home.

Amen to this one. Love the bellies...and you know they're local and brought in by a local when they have a little sand in them once in a while.I had a girlfriend who lived on Great Island (RI) in the summer. Great Island is just south of Galilee where all the fishing boats are. We would go there when we knew the boats were coming in. Lobsters, Crabs, Clams, Quahogs ... all of it and dirt cheap. We'd pay a little over asking so the guys would always wave us ahead and we'd get 1st dibs. ![]()
