US Hockey 1-5-1 in Olympic play. Completely disgraceful! The only team they beat was who Germany? Money says that BU would have at least reached the bronze medal game.
Where was Roenick? did Amonte play? This is unacceptable. I think they would be better served fielding a team of college players that wished to at the very least train for a month or so prior to the games. Where is Jim Craig when you need him?

I think that even Team GB could beat you with a record like that (OK, perhaps not- I suspect we'd be lucky to keep the score to single figures), not that I am crowing or anything.
So was the team comprised of "all stars"? They aren't exactly covering themselves in glory: first, there was the strike and now this.

The team was way too old. Chris Chelios is like 50. Yeesh.
Actually, I'm surprised they played Finland so close. The Finns are a much, much better team. They may be the best team in the tournament. Amateurs weren't beating that team. Edit: Oh, and they beat Kazahkstan.

Apparently they benched Modano (the only superstar they had) in the game against Finland.

I think a group of non-nhlers that practiced and played as a team for a couple of years would beat these All-Star teams more often than not.
I've been a critic against dream teams for years. Why deprive college kids of what will likely by the highlight of their hockey careers? Guys like Guerin, Modano, Roenick, Hull (I know the last two weren't on this team), how much do the Olympics mean to them? Not nearly as much as to a collection of likely never-will-bes from Boston University, Wisconsin, Bowling Green, etc. Is it worth a slightly enhanced chance for one more medal to deny them the opportunity to send a cast of millionaires? Are Olympic medals that important to us as a nation? Maybe, since we introduce all these snowboarding events to pad our medal total, but the Cold War is over, man. Let the kids play, and if they're not good enough, so be it. The goodwill spirt is far more important than the result, in my eyes.

I think the idea of using college kids is a good one, for the reasons you have given.
OT: You b*stards beat us in the Curling today for the bronze medal. ![]()

We should just send the winner of the Beanpot to the Olympics.
