Pure luck as far as I can see. Hitting multiple mines. Hit it higher unkike the other game, line drives don't produce the mine hitting.

I've gone over 1000 4X out of god knows how many tries. Most are 600,700,800 area.

I don't feel too bad anymore, finally got a 1180.1 on my second swing. It was followed by numerous bloops in the 450-650 range.
