From the article..."She added that the results show that cats do not understand cause-and-effect connections between objects."

How many dogs do you know that can flush a toilet, Huh?

Do you really think that cats are going to cooperate with
researchers on this, anyways.

I'm sure they were'nt hungry enough anyways...

I actually knew a friend a looooong time ago who had a dog that flushed a toilet.

Also, the dog that we had when I was in high school would bring us the paper in the morning / knew how to open doors / would bring us the phone when it rang, etc etc etc.

My cat stares at the wall for a few hours before moving on to eat before returning to stare at the wall for a few hours.

Dogs > Cats IMO

OK...just for sh1ts and giggles I searched on youtube for dogs flushing toilets...this is all I got..

Not that I don't like dogs. I do.
I just felt that this article was a vicious hit piece on one of the most misunderstood creatures on the planet perpetrated by a combination of the vast right wing conspirators and the left leaning main stream media.
They're all in this, I tell you.

Some of the comments on guardian.co.uk were brilliant. One said, for example, how cruel it was of cats to play this trick on psychologists. Other people have made the point that this does not necessarily test intelligence, but rather a) willingness to please the pack leader and b) appetite for food.

How true. I've had a cat since he was 8 weeks old. He's 13 now and over the years I have come to understand his vocabulary. He makes very distinctive sounds to let me know what he's thinking and he actually understands some English words as well. As I sit in my recliner with my laptop on my lap he loves to lay between the calves of my legs. I can say anything to him and he'll lay there, maybe look at me. But if I say come on as he looks at me he will climb right up on my lap and my laptop. But, he always waits for permission. If I say OK we got to get up he will jump off the chair. If I turn the TV off he immediately will get off the chair knowing that my next move will be to get up. I can open any cabinet door in my kitchen but, if I open the one where his treats are kept he will come running. No one will ever convince me cats aren't intelligent animals.
