Jeez, I've been wrong all along.

Our Tense Past : CJR

I sneaked into the pool and dived off the high platform into the deep end.

Well proper grammar is always evolving. That's why we don't talk like they did 100 years ago. It use to be wrong to end a sentence in a preposition. It's now accepted. When I was in grammar school I was taught you say, for example, "My friends and I" or "My brother and I" etc. Not only because it was proper grammar, but because it was impolite to put others before yourself. Nowadays I hear "Me and my friends" etc. all the time. I hear my college educated niece say it a lot. I imagine one day it will be an accepted norm also.

One that has always botherd me is hanged vs hung. I have always thought it should be "he was HUNG last night" not "he was hanged last night". Hung sounds to me like the past tense, but grammatically its incorrect
