Celestis Incorporated, which organizes "memorial space flights," will seal another portion of Roddenberry's remains with those of his recently deceased widow Majel Barrett Roddenberry in specially created capsules before sending them into space via a rocket-launched craft.
Digitized tributes from fans will also be enclosed in the spacecraft.
The launch is scheduled to take place in 2012 and will fulfil a pledge the company made to his mother more than a decade ago, the couple's son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr., said in a statement on the Celestis website.
The memorial "will carry their spirits, their memories, and the message of their life's work into the cosmos," he added
