Some amazing (dumplings), some not so amazing (thousand year egg, birds nest soup).
Did you know many Chinese restaurants have a separate menu for their Chinese customers with "real" Chinese dishes? |

Typical Asian cuisine consists mostly of vegetables, rice etc with very small (if any) amounts of meat. Where as the typical American PuPu platter is 90% meat.

This is about 20 yeas old so i don't know if it still applies. I used to live down the road from a biology professor. Anyways he took a trip to China this being in the mid eighties. When he came back the local paper did an interview with him about the trip. One of the questions was "What was real Chinese food like". He said its NOTHING like you find in the U.S. he went on to say were he was it was mostly deep fryed pork and vegitables. It was fried in lard, and nothing we would like to eat. He also said the Chines technology at the time was dated, dated back to the '40's a far as lab equipment went goes.
