Default Dice-K

I alluded to this in another thread ... Dice-K looking fat which of course changes his mechanics etc...

The thing is I am surprised really ... wasn't he supposed to have a great work ethic? In a way ... i'm kind of glad it's that he's out of shape. i think we'll at least get our money's worth out of him. I don't see him pitching to 40 like some guys ... too many innings in that arm. But one of the better AL pitchers through his contract I think is feasable.

The glut of pitching has been a great idea ... about time really. 5 pitchers is not enough as no staff makes it through the year. Oh well back to Dice n' Donut.

Boston Red Sox - Matsuzaka headed to Florida for long rehab - The Boston Globe

Quote:
“This time,’’ manager Terry Francona said, “we’re going to make sure that he’s ready to pitch.’’

Francona met with Matsuzaka “for a pretty lengthy amount of time’’ Thursday. They mapped out his regimen, making certain not to rush Matsuzaka. Francona intimated Matsuzaka may miss a long period.
Quote:
Matsuzaka will follow a conditioning program from strength coach Dave Page, and organizational pitching coach Glenn Gregson will monitor the throwing portion of his program. The Sox hope Matsuzaka will also improve his overall physical shape while strengthening his shoulder.

I didn't think his weight was a problem but I guess it's true...put on too much weight for his jerking throws. Hope he can bounce back and not become another Hideki Irabu.

One reason sums up why they kept sven guys around who could pitch...2006.

After that year's pitching problems they have kept an ace in the hole down in Pawtucket and at least one more down in Portland. They'd rather have and not need than need and not have again.

When I was younger Pawtucket always had a few players who were almost ready for the majors ... it's so different now. Clay being there is like it's the old days again. of course they don't have any position players worth 2-cents but at least there's 1 player.

Portland replaced Pawtuckett...it's now mainly just a play to stash emergency call ups, former major leaguers, rehabbing players, and players who need retooling.

Clay's being there is more like the modern times than the past...Bard and Bowden and maybe Hunter Jones might fit better into your comparison.
