With Reid taking over in K.C., it's possible that they'll move away from the 3-4. If that happens, BB would be wise to offer the Patriots' first round pick for Dontari Poe.

It's a very interesting thought. Despite getting a bit of a "bust" label early, Poe did manage to start all 6 games and had 4 PD along with 38 tackles, and though I didn't watch much of his play, there were some reports that he was picking things up, and got a bit of a shout out from Romeo:

I'm sure BB could get some background info on the kid from Crennel and Pioli. He has a relationship with Andy Reid, including a history of making deals. If KC changes schemes and Poe doesn't fit, it might not be a bad move. He's got the athletic ability. It would give KC something like 1, 32 and 33 in the draft, a good place to load up from - more if they are able to trade back from #1.

Intriguing idea. Wish I'd thought of it.

hmm i dont get it. They trade him to a 4-3 team because hes not a good fit for the 4-3? wut?

I think that makes it fairly unlikely that the Chiefs would unload someone like Poe. The Jets D's under Ryan have always valued a big stud in the middle, whether playing 3- or 4- man fronts.

Depends on what kind of approach you run. The Pats' 4-3 is nothing like traditional 4-3 defenses, anyway. Some 4-3's have thrives on having a big stud in the middle (look at the Ravens 2000 team, or the Minnesota Vikings with the Williams Wall) while others tend to focus more on quicker, penetrating DTs. It all depends on the DC and the approach. But with the Chief's hiring a DC from the Jets' coaching staff (see above), I very much doubt they would part with Poe.

Isnt the fact that he blew up at the combine the reason why they drafted him that high in the first place? He's fairly athletic.
I dont see any reason why they would trade their defensive anchor for the next 10 years, whether they are running a 4-3, a 3-4 or a 90-12828. Makes no sense to me.

As I said, I doubt they'd make such a trade, especially now that they have a DC from a background that tends to prize big men in the middle. But that was after this was posted. Teams change coaches and schemes and directions all the time, and ruin or dump high picks. Cleveland's considering dumping Brandon Weedon after 1 season. KC drafted Glenn Dorsey back in 2008 #5 overall when they played a 4-3, then hired a GM and coaching staff that switched to a 3-4, and effectively wasted him. They got little return for their top 5 pick, and if they could have traded him for a late 1st I'm sure they would have done so.

Anyway, it's all hypotehtical, and I doubt at this point that trading Poe would be an option for KC.

I think for a first round pick I'd rather get someone better. Poe has been one of KC's many disappointments this season.

We'd be better off trying to find a way to trade Dennard (perfect for cover-2) to the Cowboys for Claiborne (way too good for cover-2).
