Well, that certainly sucks.

On the other hand, I'm thrilled that things are starting to shake out well ~ perhaps even extremely well for the kid...precisely as you and I foresaw it would!!

And now we're desperate for high caliber O Tackle Depth of Talent...and a kid that Mad Bill beat half the league out to sign as a UFA...will quite possibly develop into a Stud elsewhere. You sure messed that one up, Brother Bill.

There's our 6'7" uber-athletic swing tackle. And we had him, on our roster.

The good news is that there are a number of uber-athletic guys coming out who could develop into really nice prospects:

- Kyle Long, Oregon, 6'7" 311#
- Reid Fragel, Ohio St. 6'8" 310# former TE
- Vinston Painter, Virginia Tech. 6'6" 309# former DE
- Lane Johnson*, Oklahoma 6'7" 305# former QB, TE and DE

Unlike Yeatman, all have offensive line experience at a starting level and are playing at a fairly high level, so the leap shouldn't be as great.

It’s like you had mentioned in one of your other threads, a lot of this comes down to getting raw players with great athletic ability and grooming them. The ones with that ability who have experience will already be taken and/or too expensive.

Of the group, I like Lane Johnson the best.

He's the most developed of the group and generally the highest rated right now. NFL Draft Scout ranks Johnson at 36 and Long at 74, which is probably high for Long. OTOH, Fragel (395) and Painter (714) are pretty much off their radar, though I doubt that will last. But they'll probably be day 3 guys, which is good value.

Highly likely that Bill would've signed Yeatman to the PS had he cleared final cut-down waivers, which I saw at the time as a good risk. Can't keep 'em all.

What really pisses me off is that Bill thought than the weak-ass, non-experienced IR body Zusevics was more worthy of promoting to the 53 than the stronger, more experienced Matt Kopa, who later signed with Philly.

To add insult to insult, Bill attempted to sneak Greg Salas through waivers again in order to activate Zusevics. Now we have Absolute Zero depth at WR & a complete unknown (except for the fact that he was hurt all year) at Swing Tackle. Nice moves, Genius.

I find it perplexing why you have so much hostility to a regime that has had unparalleled success. No coaching staff or FO is without mistakes. It's fine to disagree with moves, or criticize them. Hindsight is 20-20. I wish we'd kept Salas, personally. But comments like "nice move, Genius" seem uncalled for. All NFL teams operate under weekly pressures and constraints that we don't know, and the 53 man roster limit and IR rules make it extremely difficult to manage attrition. Most teams have been caught making a mistake over cutting a player due to an immediate need for a roster spot - that's how we got Danny Woodhead and Jake Ballard. It would be unreasonable to assume that the Pats would be immune to those pressures, or wouldn't make miscalculations from time to time. I'm not sure why they've earned your derision. They're still the best in the business by a long shot, for my money.

Yep.

It's a bit like golf, no matter how good you are every now and then you take the wrong club and leave it short or fly the green.

Given our extended run at or near the top, you'd have to conclude that we get it right as well as most.
