Questiong for me is, how do we get Percy Harvin from Vikings..
He makes alot of sense here, but what should we pay for him and how? Been thinking Spikes could be a part of it. Both will be out of contracts in 2013. They could use a lb in there rebuilding and we could replace Welker with Percy, also Edelman. Not only could we save some, but we might get a compensation pick in 13. We could move Hightower into the mike lb and use Ninkovich as will olb where he best fit.
Also talked about Glenn Dorsey KC. He could be the DT we looking for. Used in a 3-4 as he is now is hopeless, but in the 4-3 we use next to Vince, i think he could make Geno Atkins type of numbers? Would replace Brace and Pryor.
Why not just wait until free agency for Harvin? Or draft Tavon Austin and save millions? Harvin is the real deal but Austin's game looks pretty similar.

I prefer option 1 quite considerably. Gabe Jackson was a nice find. I still would rather take Jonathan Cooper in the first but Jackson is one of the better fall backs.
I personally feel that right offensive guard is not the highest priority for the New England Patriots in the 2013 NFL Draft. After Vince Wilfork and Kyle Love, the depth at defensive tackle is suspect with Brandon Deaderick and the oft-injured Myron Pryor. Kyle Love, Brandon Deaderick, Myron Pryor will be unrestricted free agents in calendar year 2014.

Steven Gregory is no stud against the run either. As for Tony Jefferson, the scouting report reads as follows:
He has loose hips and a balanced center of gravity to quickly change directions and close in a flash on the play. Jefferson isn't considered an elite prospect for the next level, but has top-50 potential because of his natural awareness, defensive motor and football IQ.

Nigel Malone or the best available cornerback in the seventh round.

Bill Belichick this past off-season was interested in Red Bryant; Jesse Williams could be the long term replacement for Vince Wilfork.

Sharrif Floyd has vaulted up to 31st overall in the NFLDraftScout rankings.
Hope you don't mind me grading them, don't want to offend someone else's hard work
Way too early to guess which positions the New England Patriots will target in the 2013 NFL Draft until after unrestricted free agents have been signed.

Cap room available: $31,276,000 (120.9 base + 9.376 carry over)
Wes Welker: 3 years 30m, 24m guaranteed (8, 8, 8 base)
Sebastian Vollmer: 4 years 25m, 15m guaranteed (3, 5, 7 base)
Donald Thomas: 2 years, 2.5m, 1.2m guaranteed (vet minimum)
Julian Edelman: 4 years, 5m, 4m guaranteed (1, 1, 1, 1 base)
Aqib Talib: 4 years, 25m, 20m guaranteed (3, 5, 5, 7 base)
Dwight Freeney 2 years, 7m, fully guaranteed (2m, 5m)
Kerry Rhodes 4 years, 30m, 20m guaranteed (3m, 5m, 7m, 5m)
= $20.6m base (less bonuses + draft picks on the remaining 10.86m)
Draft
All picks are using the CBS draft rankings and players are picked from within 5 spots of where the draft pick is (i.e. pick 50 will be in a range from 45-55)
32 & 64 to Cincinnati for 40, 50 & 82
40 to San Fran for 67, 86 and 104
50. Cornellius Carradine - DE - FSU - 6'4" - 265lbs Previous picks:
v2. Matt Elam - S - Florida - 5'10" - 202LBS
v1. Cornellius Carradine - DE - Florida State - 6'4" - 265lbs
Nice picks, but not enough defense for me. But I'm a defensive guy. And I wouldn't use my top defensive pick on a DB, at least not right now, until the secondary picture becomes clearure. JMHO.
If the New England Patriots move McCourty to safety, it's a damning indictment how bad Patrick Chung and Steven Gregory are as starting safeties.

But I do think BB got a little bit scared two or three years ago by having such a young and inexperienced roster and some evidence can be seen for this in the last two drafts. Firstly, two years ago was a largely offensive draft, last year was a defensive draft. The advantage to this is that you can limit the inexperience to just one side of the ball.
I somewhat disagree with this premise. The New England Patriots defense is better thru the first eight games of this season without veterans Shaun Ellis, Gerard Warren, Albert Haynesworth, Andre Carter, Mark Anderson, Leigh Bodden. If the master plan is to rebuild the defense, then rebuild the defense via the NFL Draft. With regard to the New England Patriots defensive secondary, the issue is talent not necessarily experience.

Two consecutive drafts is not a pattern but it's certainly a possible insight into a new draft dynamic for BB. Secondly, BB has turned about face on the value he places on draft picks. Next year could be the third consecutive year we go into a draft short of the standard number of picks (of course that could change). Add in the trading up last year rather than the usual approach of stockpiling picks and I think there's some circumstantial evidence that BB doesn't want to get too young at too many levels of the team. And that is why I went for an offensive draft.
With only five picks in the 2013 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots need to prioritize their selections in relation to the team's weaknesses. If the New England Patriots are able to re-sign right tackle Sebastian Vollmer and wide receiver Wes Welker, the need to select a wide receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft is greatly reduced, especially since the New England Patriots traded a future late round draft pick for wide receiver Greg Salas.
WR1: Wes Welker
WR2: Brandon Lloyd
WR3: Unrestricted Free Agency
WR4: Greg Salas
WR5: Matt Slater (wide receiver in name only)
