Default Hypothetical Draft Trading Picks Question

To think that Belichick will use both first rounders is an inane thought ... it's not happening. Trading a pick to next year will almost always guarantee value if you plan on having one of the best records and drafting later in round one very year.

That being said and what appears to be a very stocked this this year I present the question. Belichick could trade into the the lower first round by using both 2nd round picks. He could then select 2 first round players and trade pick #31 for a 2nd this year and a first next year.

It is very conceivable that he could pull this off and get 3 picks in the top 45 or so rather than 3 picks that would be 27 - 48 and 62 and still have the two first rounders again next year.

Thoughts?

I think the board would have to fall very nicely for that to happen, but yes it could. I'm not enamoured by what's available @62 so I wouldn't mind this scenario in the slightest.

It'd be a lot simpler to make picks at 27, 31, 48 and trade 62 for a 2013 1st.

Also Pat's made 2 first round selections the year we took Watson and Wilfork

You're not getting a 2nd and next 1st for 31 unless it's from a team that has a late 2nd and is all but guaranteed to pick late the next year, like the Saints last year. If it's an average team, then you'll get closer to a 3rd and a next 1st. If it's a bad team, a 4th and a next 1st.

And the going rate for a next first is around picks 41-43. Not going to happen for 62 alone.

If the Pats can pull that off, that would be the greatest heist ever.

I think Philly would be a good trade partner, pick 31 for pick 46 and a first rounder next year, with maybe a 7th rounder this year thrown to the Patriots, with a 2013 7th rounder sent to the Eagles. Take Hightower 27th, Smith 46th, and Curry with 48 and with 62 take Brandon Boykin.
