Re: Stephon Gilmore CB/FS?
I, too, thought he had poor foot quickness and recovery speed. Yet at the combine he tested off the charts in the SS and 3-cone, and ran a very solid 4.4. I am starting to think his issues are mental more than anything; he gets lost in zone all the time, and seems to overthink his technique in man.
He does look like an ideal conversion prospect. I just think he's far more of a project than people realize. The first two rounds round are too early for that kind of project, given the depth of the draft. Gilmore is very talented, though, and he could be worth the gamble. If it pays off, he's a premium playmaker at CB and FS. If it doesn't, however, we've passed on some very solid players in favor of "potential."
If BB decides to draft him, I won't complain. I won't count on Gilmore performing well, either. Worth a gamble, but don't get emotionally invested.
