Default Chocolate pudding with mayo?

I don't get the Mayo move. Why do the Pats need an undersized linebacker who struggles to get off blocks? I could understand a cover 2 team drafting Mayo, but he doesn't seem like a fit for the Pats' scheme.

It's like chocolate pudding and mayo -- the two just don't seem to mix.

If we needed a speedy ILB for situational defense, why draft that guy with a #10 pick, especially when you have CB need and there are still great CBs on the board.

Can someone explain it to me? Seriously.

Mayo is a maniac with charisma, smarts and every athletic quality you could want. In 6 months you'll love the guy.

BTW at 6'1 1/2, 242 lbs, he's as big as David Harris or Patrick Willis.

242 is plenty big. Bruschi has been playing for years at that weight.

In year 2 can Mayo go 16 games without breaking down physically from the OG's, C's and FB's that will be pounding on him for 60 plus plays per game.

I just can't figure this out. It makes me ill.

How can you not figure this out? You think he's too small?

Struggles to get off blocks? Have you seen him play? He attacks the LOS, scrapes effectively and fills the hole. He engages blockers with his inside shoulder and arm, extends to full-press, reads and quickly sheds. Most importantly, his back is flat, his hips are low, his head is up, his weight is above his toes. He plays with perfect form. In run support, he runs to the play in this "coiled" position. In zone or when getting in someone's hip, he remains low with his lower body on a good swivel and keeps his momentum toward the ball. The kid is a baller.

Also, 240 at 6'1 is a big dude. What do you want, a 270 lb 21 year old who can hang clean 500 and run a 4.2? Christ, people who have never played a snap above high school should really learn keep quiet when evaluating tallent. Look at his build, he's a thick SOB. He just looks like a thumper. Check-2 backer? Really? You sure you don't mean Ali Highsmith?

He has versitility playing both Sam and Mike postions. He took a few games to acclimate to Mike but once he did, he was dominant. He led the SEC in tackles last year. He has fluid and smooth hips in pass coverage, can shoot gaps and close effectively. All three traits the Pats inside backers have been sorely lacking the past two years.

I really can't possibly see how you don't feel like you have eaten a fist-full of viagra over this pick. Mayo's gonna be a stud in this scheme in a few years. Book it.

Bruschi is 6-1 247 Mayo is 6-1 242.

the way I see it is Mayo is a Bruschi clone without the smarts, but much better in pass coverage. Mayo has 2 years with Bruschi. Hopefully he can learn something then he will be as smart as Bruschi as well as being an athletic freak. That's what you want from your #10 pick. This year he will come in on 3rd downs and play ST. Next year he should be starting.

Bruschi isn't 6'1'', he's more like 5'11 1/2''. I also believe 247 is very generous, despite his listed weight.

Mayo had a 26 on the Wonderlik and BB went off on how smart he is today. He is known for making all the line calls etc., and his football IQ is one of his strongest qualities.
