Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if someone from the Niners was the source behind the presumed "something of substance."
"He's only a pawn in their game."
How about a compromise: I believe that Schefter has been told something that he believes is significant. But since he only feels like laying down vague hints, we have no basis for judging it.

Seriously, could Groves have had a more deflating senior season heading into the draft?
-he dislocates his toes
-he switches positions
-he has heart surgery
-he has unsubstantiated rumors floated about him, hinting at "off field" issues
-the NFL network's #1 info guy predicts he will be the draft's biggest bust.
Sheesh. I almost expect lightning to strike the guy.

This just in! Adam Schefter reports that Glenn Dorsey, Quentin Groves and Antoine Cason were found freebasing kittens in Vernon Gholstons basement, while listening to Hilary Duffs latest album!
Schefter cites an "unknown source in Foxboro" as his source for the totally credible info

I thought it had, you mean his hair is like that naturally?

His current mock, based on scuttlebut he's hearing...
1. J.Long
2. Dorsey
3. Ryan
4. Gholston
5. C Long
6. McFadden
7. Rivers/Albert
I heard this yesterday, I tried starting a thread on it yesterday but put it in Visiting Locker Room by accident...whoops.
My feeling was that Schefter is great as a source and has great connection, but he doesn't really know the game and can't evaluate the game, certainly no more than you or I.
Sometimes I just get pissed off at these NFL analysts. All it takes to become knowledgeable about the draft is time and effort. Certainly, there are those people that can take it a step further and add their own analysis, and those people get paid a premium for that, but for the average NFL analyst, or any sports analyst, it would not be hard to immerse yourself in the draft. You can find half a dozen scouting reports on any player in the draft through the net or magazines, you can watch highlights of the player, you can read message boards and see what fans of that given college or area thought of that player, etc. So when a guy like Schefter or any other analyst like him - and there are tons of them - comes up with this cookie cutter crap, I tend to flip.
Groves will not be a bust if the Pats draft him, let's put it that way. And Schefter referred to him as DE, which I have a problem with, you have to mention he's a potential OLB convert. A chunk of the teams interested in him are 3-4 teams who would play him at OLB, where he would likely be more successful and be a vicious quarterback killer for years. That's where Groves will find his success. As for the off the field stuff, he's a married man, married men get in arguments. That doesn't bother me.

I have to sort of agree with Schefter. Whoever takes Groves in the first round has to know he is the biggest BOOM or bust player out there. Stick him in the 4-3 at DE and it is possible he gets swallowed up by huge NFL OT's. At best he morphs into a Mark Anderson type.
However in the 3-4 of the Pats as a situational pass rusher in year one, I think he gives us a Ware/Merriman type that we desperately need. Lined up on Seymour's outside shoulder, he could be down right scary flying off the edge. Will he ever be able to play full time in the base defense? Maybe, but probably not as a rookie.
PS: Sports radio guys said today the Pats will leave Thomas at OLB next season opoosite Vrabel and draft Rivers to play alongside Bruschi.
