Why Keith Rivers?
Why Keith Rivers? For me this is a legitimate question. Unlike many of the prospects we rate/ vent at, Keith Rivers has been on our TV practically every Saturday during his tenure at USC. I would guess that I have caught 18- 20 USC games in the last 4 years.
6' 2 1/4" 241 lbs. 24 benches at the combine. Blew up his Pro Day with a 4.54 40 yd., 42 1/2" vertical, 10' 9" broad jump, 4.38 shuttle.
Started 35 of 49 games, most at the Will (would likely project to an ILB in the Pat's scheme). Stats- 6 fumbles recovered, 4 forced fumbles, 2 Ints, 10 sacks, 235 total tackles, 18.5 TFLs.
I don't know. Good stats, sure. But nothing that leaps out at me. I guess my biggest problem is that when I have watched USC play Rivers has always been the third, or fourth best player on the field at any given time. Even with his speed, he doesn't seem to play that fast to me. He is a solid player. Absolutely. I just don't see him as the 7th pick in the draft. Despite all the rhetoric this past few weeks, I don't see him as a "playmaker" which is what I would expect when drafting #7.
I'd love to see your arguments on Rivers. As the draft approaches he is rumored heading our way by numerous talking heads. I guess I have to take him more seriously then the #20 overall that I rated him after the combine.
