M Ryan is on the board at 7. How about we swap picks with Baltimore in round one and agree to swap second round picks as well. That way we get number 8, number 38(round 2) and our 2 threes are left alone.
If I were the pats it would be a no brainer(i think.) I think it would be a great scenario for us. In the Value chart Baltimore would come out on the losing end, but if they covet a QB they would probably do it. thoughts? |

why would baltimore want to swap with us, they pick straight after us, its a longshot but not bad, and why do baltimore need a QB they have troy smith for god sake, the dude won the heisman, give him a chance at least he could be a steal

if they want to swap picks with us if they are afraid someone would trade ahead of them and take Ryan that would be great, couldnt hurt cause whoever is on the board at 7 would still be availible at 8 if the Ravens take Ryan.

that is what i was thinking. Who knows what the teams are thinking, but would be a nice way to get an early second and still get the player we may want at 8, if we do want one at all.

Matt Ryan is a much better QB than Troy Smith. Also, The Ravens might actually be looking at an OT or a DT. So, they might resign themselves to taking whomever is left. Of course, if they are set on getting Matt Ryan, then the scenario I mentioned could come into play where the Pats could swindle a 2nd next year out of them to trade down one spot by feigning to be on the phone with a team like the Panthers or the Bears. This would allow the Pats to maximize the value. |

If Ryan is there and the Patriots can sell the notion that they have an agreement in place with the Bears then IMO they may be able to get more compensation fromeither of them to trade ... i have the Patriots trading with the Bears in my mock. The Jets at #6 can be the real power brokers but I don't think they can sell it because they are too desperate.
If all goes as I plan the Patriots will trade down twice in round 1 and come out the winners of the 2008 draft. |

first with the ravens, with us switching firsts and seconds....meaning we have a high 2nd rd pick.... then again, and we move to say the mid teens...and we get another second rounder in the mid teans..... then we are left with 1st round pick in the mid teans (and OLB, such as groves) 1st round pick in the bottom of the round (for cason, by trading our 2 second rounders) then we trade our two 3rd for a mid to late 2nd, and get chris johnson (to replace faulk) at which time we pretty much just want to get another 3rd rd pick to select Goff....(maybe by trading our 4rd, 6th, and 7th, b/c in all honesty, the chances of those guys staying on the team are really slim) and we can give up the 5th to sign seward from Carolina and we end up with an OLB, 2 ILB's, one CB, and RB that would be like the dream draft for me

Didn't the Lions pull off something similar with Clkeveland when Cleveland desperately wanted Kellen Winslow? Cleveland moved up one spot but had to give up their second round pick to Detroit.

I fi were the bears I would trade to get Matt Ryan. IMO he would take them to the next level. it would take a few years for him to get to form, but he's a potential franchise QB

I agree with you all that if Matt Ryan is sitting there @ #7, the pats are trading out with Baltimore, Carolina or Chicago.. Even if Ryan isn't there, the name I think you will be hearing as the draft comes closer is Brohm. He had to good of a season on a bad team not to be considered a top 10 pick (in my opinion).. Actually his stats were better than the year he was being considered the #1 pick in the draft
Pats trade down once at least.. My only fear is they haven't drafted a good player in the 2nd round since Wilson.. |
