Default 2008 CB Draft Class

The one question which seems almost guaranteed to get a different answer every time you ask it is...Who is the best corner in the 2008 draft ? So, which of these is it...and more importantly which is the best fit for the Patriots:

Leodis McKelvin - Troy
Aqib Talib - Kansas
Tracy Porter - Indiana
Branden Flowers - Virginia Tech
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - Tennessee St
Antoine Cason - Arizona
Patrick Lee - Auburn
Charles Godfrey - Iowa
Michael Jenkins - South Florida

(Above list based on top 100 in 2008 Uncle Heatster Horizontal Sort)

Best corner is subjective. Some teams want a guy who can play man to man. Then, maybe DRC or McKelvin. Some teams(Pats) will sacrifice a little athletic ability for instincts/smarts. Maybe, value Talib and Cason over the better athletes. Seems like a good year for cb's. J.King is a project. But, a helluva athlete. Kid from Boise might be a good player. Stanruck I believe. The guys on your list. Some think R.Smith - OU can play corner. I think he'll play S. I'd love to get Chevis Jackson - LSU in Round 3 as our nickel back.

I love Patrick Lee's size and tackling ability, but the more I see and hear of him, he lacks the quick burst or loose hips necessary to play corner. I think he'd make a great free safety though. Based on my viewings, which are going to serious hurt Cromartie, McKelvin, and Porter, my list would go:

1. Talib
2. Flowers
3. C Jackson
4. Cason
5. Godfrey

Actually, that's not true. Ikegwuono would be at the top. The combine definitely helped McKelvin and DRC, and hurt Talib and Flowers. At the end of the day though, I think all of those top 4 above would be very good fits for New England.

I think DRC has the most potential, but also has the most potential for a bust. I still think I'd roll the dice on him. But Leodis is an animal too and would love to have him...

I think DRC is a very athletic corner, but he looks like a workout wonder. He played great in the Senior Bowl, I am told. I didn't watch the game. He didn't dominate at a D2 level, so why do so many people think we should take him with the #7 pick? If he didn't dominate lesser players why do people think he will be a dominate player against superior players?

I am asking this honestly. I am perfectly willing to be proven wrong.

I know Keiper is high on him, but Keiper has always been in love with the workout wonders or system players, see Andre Ware QB

Hey my 100th post
